- 1. Swivel Radius:
- The horizontal distance from the centerline of the caster kingpin to the outer edge of the wheel. Used to measure the clearance required for 360° of rotation.
|
- 2. Lead (also called Offset):
- The swivel lead is the horizontal distance
between the center of the caster kingpin and the center of the axle through the wheel. Offsets determine the ease of
swivel and are a large factor in the capacity of the caster; a longer lead allows for easier swiveling and a shorter lead provides greater strength.
|
- 3. Overall Height:
- The vertical distance from the bottom of the caster wheel to the top of the caster mounting plate/base of the caster stem (depending on the attachment type). This is an important consideration in the total height of the product being supported by the casters.
|
- 4. Caster Size:
- Generally measured by the diameter of the wheel in the caster.
|
- 5. Face Width (also called Tread Width):
- The width of the wheel tread cross section, measured at the base of the tread rather
than at the point of contact with the floor.
