Cross Drilled Stem Attachments

A cross-drilled stem on a caster is used when you need a secure, pinned connection—especially in situations where the caster must stay firmly in place and cannot rotate or pull out under load or motion. Here’s why you’d use it:

  • Locking with a Pin or Bolt: The cross hole allows a roll pin, cotter pin, or bolt to pass through both the stem and the mounting frame, providing a mechanical lock that prevents the stem from pulling out.
  • Ideal for Safety-Critical Applications: Used where vibration, frequent movement, or load shifting could cause other stem types to loosen—common in medical equipment, scaffolding, or mobile workstations.
  • Prevents Rotation: The pin through the cross-drilled hole also helps prevent the caster from spinning in the socket, maintaining alignment and stability.
  • Durability: Offers a long-lasting, tamper-resistant fit, especially in demanding environments where reliability is critical.
  • Custom Mounting Situations: Useful in setups where a traditional press-fit or threaded stem isn’t secure enough, or where the frame is specifically designed for pinned stems.

In short, a cross-drilled stem is used when you need a pinned, non-rotating, and fail-safe connection, typically in high-mobility or high-safety applications.
